No Vote Is Ever Wasted

When shopping in a supermarket the choice of products can be overwhelming, but you have a product that you like, will purchase it contrary to it is not the most popular top selling brand. During this political primary season, you have probably been told not to vote for candidate ‘A’ because their chance of winning is almost nil, a wasted vote. With that logic, if one can refer to that statement as logic, the next time you shop for your favorite product it will not be there. Every vote cast is for something, has value if not for this election then the next. George Corley Wallace, Jr. 45th Governor of Alabama, was a failed presidential candidate in four consecutive elections, he relished in saying that in each election each vote cast for him sent a massage, which enabled him to run again and again. So during this primary season cast your vote for the candidate that best express your ideals even if there is no chance of a win, the message having been sent for the next candidate with similar ideals and just perhaps a much better chance of winning both for you and the nation that you love…no vote is ever wasted just not cast, massage not delivered, then wasted in the trash of nothing from nothing gets nothing…

In Color We Trust

There was once a time on American television when a person of color appeared, neighbors from all around the hood would gather in the living rooms of those who could afford a set to watch. The chief promoter of people of color during that period on television was Ed Sullivan host of The Toast of the Town, soon to be called The Ed Sullivan Show, a weekly one-hour variety show Sunday nights on CBS, that featured the best entertainment available in a vaudeville type formant. These days there has never been more people of color appearing on television on news shows and dramas, not just variety but on a regular basis not just as featured players as in the early days, which seem to have had a preference for Lena Horne and Dorothy Dandridge types, though not exclusively, which at the time was less offensive to a Southern audience in the Jim Crow era of the time. If one were to drill down today one could find a lot to be celebrated in this current age of inclusion until the drilling uncovers that the brown paper bag test of entry is still very much in play. I call your attention to an observation from Wikipedia: ‘Brown Paper Bag Test was a discriminatory act in the United States of America, that was based on skin color and acceptance. The brown paper bag was used as a measurement to determine whether or not an individual could receive access to certain privileges; individuals were given preference if having a skin tone lighter than a brown paper bag.[1] The test used to take place in the 20th century in many social institutions such as African-American sororities, fraternities, and churches.[2] In addition, Brown Paper Bags were used in multi-racial social events, at which only individuals with complexions at least as light as the color of a brown paper bag were admitted. The term also refers to larger issues of class and social stratification within the African-American population. This test resulted from colorism, discrimination based on skin tone’.

Even during slavery skin shade played a part in whether a slave was employed in the fields or in the big house with the master, there was a high yellow color zone that have been carried over either consciously or unconsciously today. I leave you with this suggestion, to read about another not so golden era in a book by Lawrence Otis Graham called ‘Our Kind of People’…

Please Scare Me

The classic drug depended young person has always been of the ghetto trapped underclass of the lowest social and economic order. Their drug addiction being their only release from such misery of crushing poverty. On the other hand, it has recently come to light, even though it has always been there, the upper class fully advantaged young trapped in the lap of luxurious livening, drug depended without the laborious task of robbing with a weapon, only stealing and deception as tools to get what is needed to feed the monkey on their back. In the 1940’s up to the 1960’s drug dependency information was limited viewed as encouragement much like sex education at about the same time, today we think we know better. However, with all the current information available addition is still a major problem, one would have to activity go out of one’s way to avoid it and many do not at their own peril. When I was younger the road to drug addiction was recreational today it seems to be medical which ever road taken at its start mostly end in a graveyard, yes, this post is to scare you to death or to a full recovery…

Academy Awards 2016

New York State Lottery marketing campaign proudly proclaims that ‘you have to be in it to win it’, in short you must be available to play the game to be in competition, if you are boycotting I don’t see how you can affect the outcome from the outside. I understand that a committee has been formed called ‘Hollywood Diversity Committee’, and that is all well and good but it seems to me this committee should have been formed years ago and working within the academy for whatever changes deemed necessary to achieve a different outcome of both the nominations and winners of awards. One cannot expect to win a race from across the street one must be in the race in order to win the race. Every time the discussion of movies and actors is under consideration someone should have been on the scene to make suggestions, arguing for this or that project, you were not there so your voice was not heard. You were across the street looking in or boycotting…

I Can See Clearly

All these new female news contributors are in great danger from all the toxic hair spray and chemically laced make-up applied to their skin and the very air taken in with every breath in such an environment as the make-up room shared with others engaging in the same activity. These toxicants like to live for years in fatty tissue only to emerge when the protective shield of the body is over whelmed, its then that it is realized that a pure life of simple soap and water is the guide to a healthy long life. Manufactured beauty can kill. The red dye in lipstick, harmless, the tint in some face creams, harmless, the adhesive binding false eyelashes to the upper eyelids, harmless, but added together with other unknowns can produce a kind of toxicity without any known medical term since the combination may never have been thrown together before in such quantities and frequencies, in short a time bomb ticking away. ‘Doctor, what is wrong with me, I eat all the right foods and exercise daily’? ‘We will just have to run a few more tests before we will be able to know what is sparking this kind of similarity to an indication of a kind of toxic shock syndrome’.

The shooting script is the governing body of production of all television shows, in the news business it can be the run down, the order in which stories will be told, alike but just a little different. An episode of the television series Columbo opened with a woman swimming in a pool without a swimming cap. A crime is committed, questioned by the police a half hour later, appears in coiffured hair, elaborate eye make-up with long lashes. She could not look like someone recently out of a pool of water but one recently returned from a beauty salon. I realize this may be a stretch, is the make-up of female news contributors designed to titillate male viewers, convey beauty tips to female viewers, I suggest neither since they may be reporting on the economy, terrorism, or the Kock brothers, in either case facial make-up does not advance the stories being reported, it must be something else that is driving these prostitute like wild hair colors and make-up. Perhaps a jest to provide make-up artist employment, whatever the reason it is not a necessary but another on screen distraction along with the time, temperature, network logo and news crawl…

Almost At An End

I hate to start a post with, here we go again, but I have to. Ibrahim al Qosi, a former aid to Usama bin Laden, was released from Guantanamo Bay in 2012, it was feared that he would return to the battle field and so it has been revealed that he now is a spokesman for Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula. Qosi was captured in 2002, released ten years later after pleading guilty to war crimes in 2010.

The President has today started a new assault on the closing of the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and everyone that has in the past been against its closing have voiced the same old tired arguments as before but never once touching on the main and that is its legality. So in brief let me start at the beginning. A nation has taken upon itself with arrogance to dance around the globe picking up persons naming them ‘enemy combatants’, then referring to them after capture as ‘unlawful combatants’, a made up category taking them out of the realm of the Geneva Convention governing prisoners-of-war, which according to such status allows them to be held without charge or trial, outside of international law. American jurisprudence clearly implies that one cannot be held without charge and if so charged must be tried not held indefinitely without the benefit of each. Another argument often stated against its closing and releasing of its inmates is recidivism, after spending years in confinement one becomes harden to the raw deal life has dealt them, it would be unthinkable for them to engage in the life of a farmer or corporate head in big business, internal anger has taken hold of the mind or worse, much like returning Americans veterans with Gulf War Syndrome without therapeutic treatment…

Just A Little Gray

In show business some performers need no introduction, their appearance is enough for the audience to know what to expect, the addition of a big red nose is a signal that its ok to laugh… this is a clown. Another show business incipient, the screwball comedy, the signal for this kind of farce is often the dimwitted blond head whether dyed or natural who can be counted on to say or get into situations to be laughed at. If I was to employ a female news contributor to be considered all wise I would look for one with the age of wisdom displayed by just a little gray hair.
